Scholarship Ministry

The purpose of the Scholarship Ministry is to provide financial assistance to members based on eligibility criteria determined by the scholaship committee; honor students' academic achievments throughout the school year; and give graduation gifts to pre-kindergarten, high school and college graduates.

Meeting Times :: Thursday after second Sunday in each month at 7pm

Tutorial Ministry

The Tutorial Ministry provides students with academic support to enhance their learning experience to enable success. We work with parents and students to meet the tutorial needs of all students seeking academic assistance. If interested in becoming a tutor please call one of the chairpersons. Volunteers do not have to be certified educators. Contacts:: Lolita Pate, 919.773.0452 | Kutina Gooden, 919.649.7100.


Counseling Ministry

The Counseling Ministry provides guidance and assistance to individuals, couples, children and families who encounter stress, depression, anxiety, grief or other unresolved conflict to regain peace and balance in their lives through the help of trained counselors and lay helpers. Committee meeting time - 4th Tuesday monthly

  • Appointments can be made via the church office 919-772-5151.  Assessment forms are required and need to be completed prior to your first visit.  Click to download or forms can be obtained from the church office.  Counseling services are provided at no cost to church members.
  • Confidentiality - Your privacy is important to us. Information required by law for disclosure will be reviewed with each counselee.  Our goal is to build trust, restore confidence and remove stigmas. 
  • Referrals - When more than 4-6 sessions are needed, counselees will be referred to a professional counselor of their choice.  However, periodic follow-up sessions with the counseling staff are encouraged.  Services not provided by the church or that requires other levels of intervention will be appropriately referred.
  • Resources - Resource materials are available in the church copier room and in the counseling ministry room at the Poplar House.  Diverse topics and community mental health services in a variety of venues include: Depression, Addictions, Anxiety, Abuse, Disorders, Personality Test, and Suicide
  • Staff Diversity and Qualifications - Licensed Addiction Specialist, Licensed Psychologist, Licensed Professional Counselor, Community Support Specialist, Senior/Elder Care Specialist, Educational Consultant, and Trained Lay Helpers.

Finance/Budget Ministry

The Finance/Budget Ministry seeks to be good stewards in directing and planning the uses of God’s finances given to Poplar Springs; to direct and plan budgets, bookkeeping and to track all expenses and income; and to develop financial plans to meet the future goals of this church and to work with the Board of Trustees in a cooperative spirit for the good of the whole church. Meeting: Thursday after the 2nd Sunday at 7:00 p.m.

Ushers

The Usher Ministry provides kindness and service to all who enter the Lord’s house for worship, to act out the gospel through serving the immediate needs of the people during worship. Meeting time: Tuesday after the 1st Sunday at 7 p.m.


Beautification

The Beautification Committee helps beautify the church's property by decorating for special events and holidays. The committee also offers classes in decorating, etiquette, floral arrangements and craft for all interested persons. Our mission is to work together in harmony and love with the mind of Christ.
Meeting time: 1st Saturday of each month, 10 a.m.
